CMS Delays Implementation of New Physician Signature Requirement

By | December 27, 2010

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has postponed implementation of a new physician signature requirement until the end of Q1 2011. This is good news to many in the clinical laboratory industry as it is felt that requiring a physician signature on the requisition is not going to provide any benefit or added value to patient care, but will instead stop testing on patient specimens while the laboratory searches for the physician to get a signature.

In the overview, CMS states “CMS is concerned that some physicians, NPPs, and clinical diagnostic laboratories are not aware of, or do not understand, this policy.” Click on the link below for more information.
